Flexible, Space-Saving Furniture for City Living

Recent Royal College of Art graduate Andrea Pallarès explores the idea of flexible furniture for urban living in her graduation project. With the cost of living always on the rise, people continue to downsize, which often means having to rely on rooms and furniture that pull double duties. With that in mind, Pallarès designed Nook, an all-in-one piece of furniture that adapts to your needs throughout the day.

Nook is a bespoke bed frame that comes with a pillow and duvet covers that double as a backrest and armrest and three upholstered cushions that become space dividers. Overall, the design easily transforms from being a social spot to welcome guests during the day to a cozy, private corner to sleep at night. With smaller homes, not everyone has the option to own both a bed and a sofa making Nook a great option for optimal comfort and functionality.

Adding to its functionality, Nook also has built-in flat surface on one side that works as either a side table or desk. A system of magnets keep the three cushions propped up vertically for privacy.

The pillow and duvet covers roll up to become an armrest and a backrest. Nook was made using FEBRIK textiles, which contributed to the project by half sponsoring the textile part.

The Next Car You Buy Could Be Solar-Powered

POWERED BY THE SUN

Panasonic just unveiled an improved solar panel to power cars. The panel will be used for the first solar roof model of the Toyota Prius, the Prius Prime, which is slated for release this year. The new product, called HIT™ Photovoltaic Module for Automobile, will reportedly allow the Prius Prime to be powered by a 180 W solar module, which will recharge the car’s powertrain battery in addition to its 12 V battery. Previous attempts by Toyota to create a solar roof model had managed to generate a mere 50 W — only enough to power vehicle’s fans for air conditioning.

According to Toyota, the addition of the solar panel will increase the Prius’ efficiency by up to 10 percent. In ideal conditions, the battery will add 3.5 km (2.2 mi) of electric range.

The solar outfitted Prius is still unavailable in the US since the material used for the solar panels have yet to pass US crash tests. But the manufacturer is already working on a solution.

SOLAR POWERED TESLAS

Not to be left behind, Elon Musk has announced that the Tesla Model 3 will also likely feature this solar roof option. This isn’t surprising, given that Panasonic has been providing solar and battery cells to the car manufacturer.

As Tesla works toward improving their electric vehicles’ performance and reliability, the company’s researchers are also gunning for sophisticated and advanced features such as Autopilot. Tesla hopes to achieve Level 5 autonomy by the end of the year. The company is also poised to enter the ride-sharing market with its own fleet of self-driving cars.

Tesla has shown its commitment to ushering in a new era in energy, both on and off the road, thanks to their recent innovations and initiatives geared towards solar power and energy storage. Now that Toyota is joining in the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, we can only hope that other car manufacturers will begin making the switch as well.

The Alien lounge : HR Giger Bar

Can you imagine stepping inside this bar? Bar? Yes, it is just a bar called “HR Giger Bar“, found at the HR Giger Museum in Gruyères, Switzerland. HR Giger Bar is a cavernous, skeletal structure covered by double arches of vertebrae that crisscross the vaulted ceiling of an ancient castle.

The sensation of being in this extraordinary setting recalls the tale of Jonah and the whale, lending the feel of being literally in the belly of a fossilized, prehistoric beast, or that you have been transported into the remains of a mutated future civilization.

This is a really impressive design and I bet you will have a unforgettable drinking experience inside.

One of my hobbies

Luggages and laundry carriers from 1950s

I have alway been a collector of vintage stuff, I collect vintage notebooks (diaries), vintage luggage, music boxes, stationary and sometimes I build furniture and make them look vintage and its not only that I collect them I actually utilize/use them. I don’t sell them though.

in this post I will show some of the stuff I collected.

A vintage decorative mannequin

Vintage radio that have an AUX socket

A storage cabinet with a storage box above

The above box is one of the most valuable stuff I got. Because it is a laundry box that belongs to a soldier who actually participated in the Second World War.

I have tons of notebooks with different desigs I try to fill them with my life story, eventually one day I will surely go. Those who will read them will know everything about me .. and enjoy reading them specially the chapter I called “The things I could not say”.

Notebooks and vintage envelopes

The leather notebook is a Japanese brand called Midori they sell hell of stationary stuff that blow any person mind with such interest. It is customizable and very practical for business. Below are pictures to demonstrate what items I bought to “build it” according to my need. Every thing inside this beautiful stuff is from the brand it self, different kind of tiny notebooks that are fixed via elastic strings, then comes a plastic sealable pocket, pen, pen holder, paper business card holder and a beautiful plastic divider that can be used as a ruler as well !
